SLC Farmer's Market by Eric Dacus

We didn’t get to the Farmer’s Market early enough for the best lighting, but the open shade and white tents provided some good light nonetheless. Walking around with a camera at this (or probably other) farmer’s markets is nothing new or creative, but it was new to me to poke a camera around total strangers.

The first of many by Eric Dacus

Here’s the first picture from Nelson and Krissy’s wedding this weekend.  I know its not “of” the wedding or of anyone in the wedding, but its one of the images I’m most happy with.

I was able to take some pictures at my brother-in-law’s wedding this weekend before everything got started and the man working on the flowers was kind enough to pause his work to let me get his photo. Its amazing how much effort goes into the placement and preparation of a wedding.

Canon Parts List

Cool website that is a list of Parts Lists for Canon lenses and a few cameras. The exploded views of how the lens go together are amazing (at least to me as an engineer). One of the aspects I enjoy most about photography is that it is both a technical and artistic endeavor.

Roadmap for the Fall!

Looking forward to this fall and getting to see the other National Parks here in Utah as Polly recovers. A lot of these parks weren’t really on our radar because they either don’t have much climbing or don’t have the kind of climbing I’m into (I don’t do aid…), and since most of our vacation time seems to revolve around climbing areas its been hard to schedule a visit to Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon, etc. It should be fun to explore the desert with camera in hand.

5 minute rainbow over Little Cottonwood Canyon, the best camera is still the one you have with you…  Didn’t have time to even drive 3 minutes home and get out the 5d.

SLC Library Staircases
Have been wanting to wander around the Library and find something interesting to shoot for a while. This is the first of several shots from the wanderings.

Friends and Recovery by Eric Dacus

Polly is recovering well, definitely more mobile during the day and able to sit for longer spans of time.

Settlers of Catan-1 Settlers of Catan-3 Settlers of Catan-5

Jeff and Kristin came over for an evening this past week for a game of Settlers of Catan (great game btw!).  Jeff will be moving on to Seattle later this summer to pursue a PhD, but hopefully we can get a few more games of Settlers in before they leave.

Mountair Mile Children's Race 2009 by Eric Dacus

MountairMile-8

I got to volunteer to shoot photos of the Mountair Mile Children’s Race last Saturday, and I’ve finally gotten some of the photos up on Flickr.  It was the first event that I’ve gotten to cover as ‘the photographer’ and it was a challenging experience.  The first half of things I was trying to find photos that told the story of the race and then during the race I was just trying to get the Autofocus to keep up with the kids.

The Canon 5d can do sports, but you’ve got to help it along.  I was definitely wishing for something with faster autofocus. And speaking of faster, f/4 just doesn’t seem to be a wide enough aperture at the 70-200mm range to really separate subject from background unless you’re right on top of them.  For walking around an event looking for photos, the 17-40mm lens was just too wide most of the time, now I can see why someone would want a 24-70 or a 24-105mm lens.

The race is a great cause and if you live in SLC, it would definitely be worth checking out last year.  Everyone seemed to have a great time.

My mother-in-law, Judy. She’s been a huge help here since Polly’s surgery.

Had a good weekend around SLC this weekend and got to shoot photos for the Mountair Mile Children’s Race. Photos from that race will be up soon. It was a cool event to volunteer for and a great cause. If you have kids and are in the SLC area, next year’s race will be the last weekend in June.

Polly is continuing to recover well, and went to the Farmer’s market while I was at the race on Saturday.
