Updated the site. by Eric Dacus

Got the hang of using Lightroom to export Airtight’s SimpleViewer tonight and it has greatly sped up the process of getting the portfolio section of the site updated.

The idea of having a “portfolio” has felt pretty limiting until this week. You don’t really have to build a portfolio as an engineer just a resume or CV, and the idea of casting a subset of the photos I’ve taken into something that’s representative of what I can do feels both presumptuous and stifling (and scary, what if its not good enough!?).  Thankfully I’m not the first to feel this way,  (Insightful posts here and here)  and I feel a little better about just putting the images and stories behind them up. If I want my images to tell a story, then tell it.

Library of Congress on Flickr by Eric Dacus

The Library of Congress has started posting images to a Flickr stream, which should be a cool resource to look through. I’m glad I don’t have to lug around a camera like this one.

City of Rocks by Eric Dacus

This weekends trip to the City of Rocks, Idaho was a lot of fun (it was windy as always but warm enough not to feel too scoured). We got to climb some great routes and see family who met us there from Boise.  I got some photos that I am pretty happy with, and next time I would like to take more time to get in position above climbs. Though it seems that means having someone else (or me) lead the route first, clean it, then have someone else lead it again.  Every trip out like this with the camera is a learning experience.

The full set of photos can be found on my Flickr photostream

Neighborhood Trees at Sunset: Salt Lake CIty isn’t burning, but I did get one great sunset Tuesday night this week. I wish I could have had a better vantage point for a more interesting composition.

Portfolio Part 1 by Eric Dacus

I’m in the process of consolidating where and how I publish information online and am working on getting a photo portfolio together as well.  There is something that isn’t quite working with the page height (the thumbnails get clipped off…).  But the basic structure is working. Here is the first of these portfolios:
